At Haft2, we are united by a collective goal to make the world a better place. With this in mind, it came as no surprise that a story about non-for-profit organization Publicolor caught our eye immediately.
Housed in New York City, Publicolor inspires students who are struggling to thrive in traditional school environments due to learning disabilities, bullying, poverty, and other life roadblocks. Though the impact of their programs has been observed internally for 20 years, the organization gained publicity recently at the hands of Atlanta advertising agency Brunner. Brunner was engaged to create a three-minute promotional video highlighting the support that Publicolor received from agency client Tandus Centiva, however what was initially intended to be a short promo quickly became a ten-minute documentary once the sheer emotional impact of its stories were made evident. To express their genuine interest in the cause, Brunner donated over $100,000 in hours to extend the video and create something special with the content they were given.

Driven by an ambition to improve circumstances for disadvantaged youth, Publicolor uses after-school workshops and summer programming to teach literacy and math, as well as providing students with a foundation in colour theory through the use of weaving and painting. The results of Publicolor’s programs are many, including increased self-confidence, improved motivation to learn, and a higher likelihood of attending college or university.

Colour was incorporated into the program as a result of research indicating its influence on attitudes and outlooks, a fact that we know all too well. We’re glad that Publicolor has done its part to raise awareness for the importance of colour and hope to see an increased understanding of its emotional impact in the very near future.
